What the community is asking for

We ask TCDC and NZTA Waka Kotahi to work together urgently to improve safety at the Moewai Road and State Highway 25 intersection in Whitianga.

The community supports installing a roundabout, subject to the required engineering and safety assessment. If the assessment identifies a safer or more effective treatment, it should be clearly explained and delivered without unnecessary delay.

Publish an up-to-date assessment

Include crash history, sight distances, turning movements, walking and cycling needs, heavy vehicles and expected future demand.

Properly assess a roundabout

Compare the community's preferred option with any other credible safety treatments.

Name the responsible agencies

Confirm who owns each part of the work and establish a joint TCDC and NZTA project lead.

Give the community a timeframe

Provide a written response, indicative programme, funding pathway and next decision date.

Act while a permanent fix is planned

Put suitable interim safety measures in place if permanent improvements cannot be delivered promptly.
